What's New in Version 2
The big change in version 2 is the ability to index information about
all files, not just the ones that you index the contents of.
This lets you do things like quickly list all the files on your disk,
as of the last update, and sort them by files size, last modified date
and attributes as well as file name and parent folder name.
You can also do things like search for all *.doc files in the admin
folder hierarchy that were modified on August 2 and have not yet been
backed up.
Because there are so many new features in version 2, an exhaustive
description of them would be tedious, so we are presenting a point form
list with links to the appropriate help sections. The menu at the left
also contains pointers into various parts of the Wilbur help system.
Indexing & Searching
Searching
- Search for a file based on combinations
of:
- Contents
- File Name
- Folder Name
- Size (Min and Max)
- Modification date (Before and After)
- Attributes
- Save commonly used search criteria as a template
- Select the index to search from right in the search dialog.
- Added AND (&) and OR (|) logicals to the file name and folder
name search criteria.
- Search history is now common across all indexes and not stored with
the index. This means it is no longer necessary to save the
index to save your recent search strings.
- The * wildcard matches all possible characters rather than the least
possible.
- Much faster - can now list all the files on your disk quite quickly.
- Will now list folders as well as files (assuming the search Contains
field was empty).
- Columns added for attributes, volume name, size. Path name
was changed to folder name
- Which columns are displayed is now user selectable
- Columns may be dragged into different positions.
- Clicking anywhere on a row selects the row (not just on the name
as before)
- The Send To item of the context menu now works correctly
- Directories and multiple files are now allowed in the context menu
as long as they are all in the same parent directory.
- Launching a zipped file now produces a
save dialog so you can save a copy which will be launched.
- A new file run command has been added
which permits selected files (could be a great many) to be processed
by command line programs or commands.
- The Copy List command becomes a Copy To command
which permits the copying of directory trees and files into and out
of zip archives.
- Added keys to switch panes (Tab) and to minimize Wilbur (Pause).
- Displays folder contents when a folder is selected in the file list
pane
- Now has a maximum amount read (set in file preferences). Handy
for when you sort all the files on your disk by size.
Miscellaneous
- WilburUtil - a companion program that
provides a Wilbur start up icon on the tooltray and scheduling of
automatic builds and updates
- WilburNote - a companion program for
quick note taking
- Web browser based help.
- Getting started item added to help
menu.
- Fixed problem where the initial path for the temporary zip directory
was missing the trailing backslash
- Changed the default file name when browsing in include
and exclude file dialogs to '*' from
'*.*'. This is now consistant with the way Wilbur actually
treats wildcards and dots.
- Added toolbar button for toggling outline
mode.
